Inspired by Valery J. Bryusov's novel of the same name, this opera is Sergei Prokofiev's most distinctive masterpiece. "The Fiery Angel" tells the story of Renata, plagued by erotic visions with an angel. Ruprecht, a knight, falls for Renata and follows her unconditionally on her obsessive quest to fulfill this fantasy. The two transcend the limits of perception and leave all rules of morality and reason behind until the willingness to devote body and soul threatens to completely dissolve their previous existence. The opera will be conducted by the Japanese conductor Kazushi Ono. The role of Renata will be sung by the Lithuanian soprano Aušrinė Stundytė, while the American baritone Scott Hendricks will play the role of Ritter Ruprecht.
