Hans Christian Andersen 's 1843 short story The Nightingale and the Emperor of China , which seems to have appeared as a tribute to one of the greatest opera singers of all time (Jenny Lind, «the Swedish nightingale»), has inspired extraordinary musical adaptations. Remember the 1914 opera by Igor Stravinski, whose scenic version was premiered in our country at the São Carlos National Theater in 1997. We will now have, in a new production, the fruit of the inspiration that the same text provoked in the Portuguese contemporary composer Sérgio Azevedo .

It will be the premiere of a new version, with the composer's libretto, designed for families and schools, after, in 2021, Sérgio Azevedo presented the mini-opera (or pocket opera) O Rouxinol at the Casa das Artes in Famalicão, destined to be enjoyed and interpreted by children. This version, which will now be premiered under the musical direction of João Paulo Santos, is enormously amplified in terms of effectives. The staging is signed by Mário João Alves, singer, writer and director used to dealing with the children's universe. In this revisitation of Andersen's tale, the nightingale will be Ana Sofia Ventura.

O conto O Rouxinol e o Imperador da China de Hans Christian Andersen, de 1843, que parece ter surgido como tributo a uma das maiores cantoras de ópera de sempre (Jenny Lind, «o rouxinol sueco»), tem inspirado extraordinárias adaptações musicais. Recorde-se a ópera de 1914 de Igor Stravinski, cuja versão cénica se estreou no nosso país no Teatro Nacional de São Carlos em 1997. Teremos agora, em nova produção, o fruto da inspiração que o mesmo texto provocou no compositor contemporâneo português Sérgio Azevedo.

Será a estreia de uma nova versão, com libreto do compositor, pensada para famílias e escolas, depois de, em 2021, Sérgio Azevedo ter apresentado na Casa das Artes de Famalicão a mini-ópera (ou ópera de bolso) O rouxinol destinada a ser fruída e interpretada por crianças, uma iniciativa do Movimento Patrimonial pela Música Portuguesa. Esta versão, que agora será dada em estreia sob a direção musical de João Paulo Santos, é enormemente amplificada em efetivos. A encenação é assinada por Mário João Alves, cantor, escritor e encenador habituado a lidar com o universo infantil. Nesta revisitação ao conto de Andersen, o rouxinol será Ana Sofia Ventura.
