After loving, against all reason, abandoned Cio-Cio-san and charming, tormented by illness, Mimi, it's the turn to Floria Toska. Of course, the series of concert performances of Puccini's operas could not be complete without the Roman story of the love triangle. Marco Guidarini, the music director of the Teatr Wielki, is behind the conductor's stand, and Iwona Sobotka for the first time in the title part.

 

If it weren't for family burdens - after all, he was the composer's grandson, son and nephew of gifted musicians - Puccini could have successfully acted as a literary agent. He combined the ease of creating heart-touching arias and duets with a taste sensitive to literary hits. The composer simply knew which of the texts could be perfectly adapted to the operatic scene, and his dramatic tips were listened to by the excellent librettists - Illica and Giacosa. It was in their company that he created his unforgettable works.

The literary prototype of "Toska" was the drama by Victoren Sardou, written with Sarah Bernhardt in mind, an outstanding French actress of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was her in the role of Tosca that the composer in Florence admired. And there, while working on "Bohemia", he decided to make Sardou's drama an opera.

"Tosca" premiered in Rome in January 1900. And although the critics shook their noses at the vulgarity of the subject, the audience ignored the biting remarks of the reviewers, filling the audience in crowds. Once again, the reviewer's dissatisfaction was won by the love of the story about unhappy love and the excellent portrait of a woman torn apart by emotions. Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore.
