We are all familiar with the fantastic image of imperial China, but what will the China of the future look like? "China has maintained its secrecy during the communist regime and continues to cherish it in the 21st century. The plot of the opera is fairy-tale-like, but fits in with the sci-fi image of China in our imaginations. In the story of Turandot, the ruthlessness of the state apparatus is veiled in fairy tales and fantasy, the preservation of the nation is more important than the love of the princess. A single person is crushed under artificial intelligence and technological machinery, but does love conquer all?” director Ville Saukkonen reflects on the themes of Turandot. 

Turandot is a passionate, exuberant and exciting operatic fantasy. Puccini's musical fireworks, crowned by the world's most famous aria, Nessun dorma. Opera BOX's Turandot does not strip opera of its fairy-tale character by modernizing it, but shows its topicality in the world of virtual reality and artificial intelligence.

Keisarillisen Kiinan fantastinen kuvasto on meille kaikille tuttu, mutta minkä näköinen on tulevaisuuden Kiina? “Kiina on säilyttänyt salaperäisyytensä kommunistihallinnon aikana ja vaalii sitä edelleen 2000-luvulla. Oopperan juoni on satumainen, mutta sopii yhteen mielikuviemme sci-fi kuvaston Kiinasta. Turandotin tarinassa valtiokoneiston armottomuus verhoutuu sadun ja fantasian vyyhtiin, kansakunnan säilyminen on tärkeämpää kuin prinsessan rakkaus.
