"Viva la mamma", or "Long live mother!" - This is an opera-farce, also known as "Theatrical Orders and Disorders".

The literary and stage basis of the opera was the play by Antonio Simone Sografi, which has been staged in drama theaters since 1794. On the opera stage in the Donizetti farce there appears ... the stage of the provincial theater in Rimini, where a certain Italian troupe is rehearsing the Italian opera Romulus and Ersilia. Moreover, the singers constantly quarrel and the production falls apart before our eyes. One of the main female parts (Mama Agatha) was written for baritone.

Премьера «Театральных порядков» состоялась 21 января 1827 г. в театре Неаполя «Nuоvo». Забавную, подчас пародирующую оперные нравы комедию (чуть-чуть «капустник»), сам композитор отнюдь не считал вехой в своём творчестве. Тем не менее, она выдержала за сезон 53 представления, и спустя несколько лет была снова поставлена в Неаполе. В 1831 году для постановки в миланском театре «Kanobbiana» Доницетти вновь вернулся к своему неожиданно удачному фарсу. На этот раз он использовал и другую пьесу А.Сографи − «Театральные беспорядки». И двухактный фарс, где разговорные сцены первой одноактной редакции были заменены речитативами «секко», стал называться «Театральные порядки и беспорядки».
