Георгій Ковтун про постановку “Вія” «Гоголь – майстер фантасмагорії» Прийоми для передачі фантасмагорії складні, адже вони не мають реальних обгрунтувань, логічної бази. На мій погляд, в «Вії» письменнику вдалося створити дивовижний контраст жахливого сюжету та іронічного ставлення до героїв. До слова, легенда про Панночку і Вія досить розповсюджена – в фольклорних традиціях кожного народу є безліч подібних історій. Повість Гоголя спонукає нас звертати увагу не стільки на сюжет, скільки на особливості його подачі, що підтверджує актуальність думки – часто важливо не що, а як. Тому я й дозволив собі втрутитися у світ автора. Керівництво Одеського театру опери та балету звернулося з пропозицією про поставку опери-балету «Вій» видатного українського композитора Віталія Губаренка на сцені театру. Спочатку хотів відмовитися, але мій внутрішній авантюризм змусив кров в жилах вирувати, а це означає – з’явився божевільний інтерес до цієї роботи. Одеському глядачеві добре відома перша постановка «Вія» 1984 року, тому я і вирішив звернути увагу на передісторію взаємин Хоми і Панночки. Наприкінці життя Губаренко на основі музики опери-балету написав хореографічні сцени. Мені здалося цікавим об’єднати оперу-балет і хореографічні сцени. Вистава наповнена містичним змістом, який передається за допомогою музики, живопису, хореографії, голосу. Микола Васильович Гоголь занурений в дію спектаклю і стає його головною дійовою особою. Він створює своїх героїв, вони народжуються з його свідомості,  знаходять своє життя і вступають у конфлікт із самим автором.

Georgy Kovtun about the production "Viya" " Gogol - master of phantasmagoria "Techniques for transmitting phantasmagoria are complex, because they have no real rationale, logical basis. In my opinion, in "Via" the writer managed to create an amazing contrast between the terrible plot and the ironic attitude towards the heroes. By the way, the legend about Pannochka and Viya is quite widespread - there are many similar stories in the folklore traditions of every nation. Gogol's story prompts us to pay attention not so much to the plot as to the peculiarities of its presentation, which confirms the relevance of thought - often it is not what, but how that matters. That is why I allowed myself to intervene in the author's world. The management of the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theater made a proposal to perform the opera-ballet "Vii" by the outstanding Ukrainian composer Vitaly Gubarenko on the stage of the theater. At first I wanted to refuse, but my inner adventurism made the blood in my veins rush, and this means that there has been a crazy interest in this work. The first production of "Viya" in 1984 is well known to the Odesa audience, so I decided to pay attention to the background of the relationship between Khoma and Pannochka. At the end of his life, Gubarenko wrote choreographic scenes based on the music of the opera-ballet. It seemed interesting to me to combine opera-ballet and choreographic scenes. The performance is filled with mystical content, which is conveyed with the help of music, painting, choreography, and voice. Mykola Vasyliovych Gogol is immersed in the action of the play and becomes its main character. He creates his heroes, they are born from his consciousness, find their own life and come into conflict with the author himself. At the end of his life, Gubarenko wrote choreographic scenes based on the music of the opera-ballet. It seemed interesting to me to combine opera-ballet and choreographic scenes.
