Christian Zacharias is a world-renowned outstanding interpreter of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann. Two works by the last of these composers were included in the program of the artist's performance with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic. Zacharias will not only conduct, but also sit at the piano, performing a solo part in one of these works. The program will be complemented by a suite from Aaron Copland's ballet Appalachian Spring .

The colorful suite from Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring ballet that opens the concert is part of a group of three of his so-called "cowboy ballets" (the others being Rodeo and Billy the Kid ). The work was commissioned by the famous dancer Martha Graham and premiered in Washington, D.C. in 1944. The content of the ballet is the adventures of a young couple of settlers, taking place in spring. The brilliantly orchestrated suite quickly gained great popularity and is now one of the most frequently performed pieces in the American composer's repertoire. Konzertstück in G majorRobert Schumann is a work written in September 1849. It consists of two sections - a slow-paced introduction and a dynamic main part. It was first performed in Leipzig in February 1850 by Clara – the artist's wife, an excellent composer and pianist.

The second part of the concert will be filled entirely with Schumann's Symphony in B flat major "Spring". It was written very quickly, as the composer worked on it for only two months, in January and February 1842. The premiere took place in March of the same year in Leipzig under the baton of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Until now, Schumann was known mainly for his piano compositions. His wife persuaded him to write a larger piece for orchestra. Interestingly, although the artist in a letter to a friend described in detail what specific fragments in the score reminded him of, all "spring" associations came to his mind after finishing the work! The composer even planned to give individual sections of the program titles ( The Beginning of Spring , Evening ,Merry Fun and Spring in Blossom ), but backed away from the idea, leaving the listener to choose how he or she should interpret the passages.

Dwa dzieła ostatniego z tych kompozytorów znalazły się w programie występu artysty z NFM Filharmonią Wrocławską. Zacharias będzie nie tylko dyrygował, ale zasiądzie też przy fortepianie, wykonując w jednym z tych utworów partię solową. Programu dopełni suita z baletu Appalachian Spring Aarona Coplanda.

Barwna suita z baletu Appalachian Spring Aarona Coplanda, która otworzy koncert należy do grupy trzech tak zwanych „baletów kowbojskich” tego artysty (pozostałe to Rodeo i Billy the Kid). Dzieło to zostało zamówione przez sławną tancerkę Marthę Graham, a prawykonanie odbyło się w Waszyngtonie w 1944 roku. Treścią baletu są perypetie młodej pary osadników, rozgrywające się właśnie w okresie wiosny. Błyskotliwie orkiestrowana suita szybko zyskała dużą popularność i należy obecnie do najchętniej wykonywanych z repertuaru amerykańskiego kompozytora. Z kolei Konzertstück G-dur Roberta Schumanna to utwór napisany we wrześniu 1849 roku. Składa się z dwóch odcinków – utrzymanej w powolnym tempie introdukcji i dynamicznej części zasadniczej. Jako pierwsza wykonała go w Lipsku w lutym 1850 roku Clara – żona twórcy, znakomita kompozytorka i pianistka.

Drugą część koncertu wypełni w całości Symfonia B-dur „Wiosenna” Schumanna. Powstała ona bardzo szybko, kompozytor pracował nad nią bowiem tylko dwa miesiące, w styczniu i lutym 1842 roku. Prawykonanie odbyło się już w marcu tego samego roku w Lipsku pod batutą Felixa Mendelssohna Bartholdy’ego. Do tej pory Schumann znano głównie ze względu na jego kompozycje fortepianowe. Do napisania większego utworu na orkiestrę namówiła go żona. Co ciekawe, chociaż artysta w liście do przyjaciela opisywał ze szczegółami, z czym kojarzą mu się konkretne fragmenty w partyturze, to wszelkie „wiosenne” asocjacje przyszły mu do głowy już po ukończeniu dzieła! Kompozytor planował nawet nadanie poszczególnym ogniwom programowych tytułów (Początek wiosny, Wieczór, Wesołe zabawy i Wiosna w pełnym rozkwicie), ale wycofał się z tego pomysłu, pozostawiając słuchaczowi wybór co do tego, w jaki sposób powinien zinterpretować on poszczególne fragmenty.
