The sought-after Norwegian mezzosoprano Marianne Beate Kielland and her friends from the Baroque ensemble Oslo Circles have put together an entertaining programme with music from the Italian Seicento. The audience will be presented with no fewer than ten Italian lovers from the years around 1660. They are as varied as life itself: there’s the thief, the liar, the adviser on matters of the heart, the lazy and the secret lovers – and in particular it’s essential to show the musician-as-lover. Naturally, the music to all this also comes from Italy: from the Venetian Baroque composer Barbara Strozzi and the opera composers Francesco Cavalli and Antonio Caldara, to name just a few. Alongside this we have colourful, effervescent and yearningly melancholic instrumental music of the early Italian Baroque: virtuoso sonatas, groovy ground basses and instrumental solos.
