"What makes this Carmen production very special for me is the mixture of innovation and repetition, the interplay of notes and sounds, the symbiosis of fiction and reality. Dittrich and Schwencke didn't just stage the Bizet classic in a new way, they used the original and really rethinked everything. The result is a touching and impressive operatic monologue, with music on stage but without the choir and orchestra.
