Dutch soprano Barbara Haveman began her studies at the Maastricht Conservatory and continued with Carlo Bergonzi. She won first prize in the 'Voce Verdiane' competition and also won the Belvedere Competition, the Concours International de Chant de Verviers and the Franco Corelli Competition. As a Lirico Spinto she sings roles from the Italian, French, German and Slavic repertoire. Her most important appearances include Salomé (Hérodiade), Manon Lescaut, Tosca, Amelia (Simon Boccanegra), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera) and Lisa (Pique Dame) at the Vienna State Opera. After Blanche Dubois (Un tram che si chiama desiderio by A. Previn) at the Teatro Regio in Turin, she returned to Italy with La fanciulla del West at La Scala in Milan.
