Das Akkordeon ist ein Exot in der Welt der klassischen Musik: Seinen großen Auftritt hat es in den Werken des Argentiniers Astor Piazzolla. Er verband die europäische Musiktradition mit den Tango-Rhythmen seiner Heimat. Sein Bandoneon-Konzert „Aconcagua“ ist dem höchsten Berg Amerikas in den argentinischen Anden gewidmet. Manuel de Falla komponierte in seinem Ballett „Der Dreispitz“ eine komödiantische Szene um eine schöne Müllerin, ihren schlauen Ehemann und den behäbigen Beamten, der es auf die junge Frau abgesehen hat. Schostakowitschs 1. Symphonie, die er mit 20 Jahren schrieb, verblüfft durch ihren Humor und ihre kompositorische Könnerschaft. Zwischen überbordender Heiterkeit, Optimismus, einem Trauermarsch und schließlich dem pathetischen Ende lotet der Komponist verschiedenste musikalische Ausdrucksformen aus.

The accordion is an exotic species in the world of classical music: it makes its major appearance in the works of the Argentinian Astor Piazzolla. He combined the European musical tradition with the tango rhythms of his homeland. His bandoneon concert “Aconcagua” is dedicated to the highest mountain in America in the Argentine Andes. In his ballet “The Tricorne”, Manuel de Falla composed a comedic scene about a beautiful miller's wife, her clever husband and the portly official who has his sights on the young woman. Shostakovich's First Symphony, which he wrote at the age of 20, amazes with its humor and compositional skill. Between exuberant cheerfulness, optimism, a funeral march and finally the pathetic ending, the composer explores a wide variety of musical expressions.
