love each other. However, Ernesto's old, rich, stingy and unsympathetic ancestral uncle Don Pasquale, who vetoed and instead wanted to go free himself, squeezed between a marriage between the two. Good advice is now expensive. Dr. Malatesta, both Ernesto's best friend and Don Pasquale's confidante, forges a plan to help the young lovers achieve their marital happiness and inheritance. His supposed "sister" Sofrina - in truth the disguised Norina - is hyped to Don Pasquale as a bitchy wife and, with a lot of acting talent and the energetic support of Ernesto and Malatesta, can take her fate into her own hands.

In this classic opera buffa from 1843, solid comedy and realistic characters merge with Donizetti's compositional refinement and result in an entertaining symbiosis in which the audience can indulge in musical bel canto dreams.
