“L’ambizione del progetto è quella di risarcire Charles Gounod e l’opera stessa dell’ammirazione che meritano per aver trasformato in teatro e musica uno dei capisaldi del pensiero e dell’arte occidentali – racconta il regista Simone Derai -. E questo non strappando dalla carne di Gounod la connessione con Goethe e il suo capolavoro, ma riannodandone saldamente il vincolo, unica via per osservare non il difetto ma la grandezza del compositore e la sua straordinaria autonomia”.

The direction of the opera respects the original temporal collocation, that first Germanic sixteenth century in which the legend of Faust arises and in which the story is placed in the drama of Goethe from which they draw and to which they refer Barbier, Carré and Gounod. A single space differently equipped, without special stage machines, will serve to recreate the necessary dimension for the different environments of the scenes where a sort of puppet theater moves, like the one that originally inspired the young Goethe. An important role is entrusted to video projections - all original images, collected and produced specifically for this production -, a dramaturgical tool that is placed between one act and another, without interfering with the linearity of the story, exploiting the dead times of technical changes.
