Final concert: Porgy and Bess Gershwin

George Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess, set in Charleston's slums, is one of the composer's most successful and popular works. Gershwin has written grandiose music for the exciting story of love, hate, jealousy and discrimination, which effectively combines jazz and folk elements. The intensity of the dramatic and lyrical expression, especially in the folk scenes that are organically linked to the plot, the choral settings of the spirituals, the melodic ingenuity and the virtuoso instrumentation make the work the most important American folk opera with international standing. Many of the songs from the work, such as the wonderful lullaby »Summertime«, also became world famous. To crown the 2022 festival summer, the Wunderino Arena in Kiel will be transformed into a spectacular opera stage
