Es ist ein Programm so ganz gegen alle Konventionen, das der charismatische Dirigent Constantinos Carydis zusammengestellt hat. Der Tanz steht im Zentrum, dazu setzt sich Carydis auch selbst ans Klavier. Und es gibt ein Violinkonzert zu hören, das ebenfalls völlig gegen die Norm angeht. Robert Schumanns d-Moll-Konzert ist ein besonderer Fall. Feierte der Komponist mit seiner „Rheinischen Sinfonie“ noch die pure Lebensfreude, lässt er drei Jahre später mit dem Violinkonzert in Tiefen, vielleicht in Abgründe blicken. Ein völlig unangepasstes, ja visionäres Spätwerk ist es, eine exotische Insel inmitten der allzu einschmeichelnden Schönklangkonzerte jener Zeit. Wenige Geiger*innen nur wagen diesen Tanz auf dem Vulkan – die Japanerin Sayaka Shoji ist eine von ihnen. Ihre Karriere begann mit 16, als sie 1999 den Paganini-Wettbewerb in Genua gewann. Sie ist die jüngste Preisträgerin bis heute. In Italien und Japan aufgewachsen, hat sie in Köln studiert und lebt heute in Paris. Und sie wollte nie Tänzerin werden, allerdings Opernsängerin – „aber ich hatte eine sehr leise Stimme. In gewisser Weise war das Erlernen der Geige eine Alternative, weshalb der Gesang ein sehr wichtiges Element in meinem Spiel geworden ist.“

It is a program that defies all conventions, put together by the charismatic conductor Constantinos Carydis. The focus is on dance, and Carydis sits down at the piano herself. And there is a violin concerto that also goes completely against the norm. Robert Schumann's D minor Concerto is a special case. While the composer was still celebrating pure joie de vivre with his "Rhenish Symphony", three years later he allows us to look into the depths, perhaps into the abyss, with the Violin Concerto. It is a completely nonconformist, even visionary late work, an exotic island in the midst of the all too ingratiating beautiful sound concerts of that time. Only a few violinists dare this dance on the volcano - the Japanese Sayaka Shoji is one of them. Her career began at 16 when she won the 1999 Paganini competition in Genoa. She is the youngest winner to date. Raised in Italy and Japan, she studied in Cologne and now lives in Paris. And she never wanted to be a dancer, although she wanted to be an opera singer – "but I had a very quiet voice. In a way, learning to play the violin was an alternative, which is why singing has become a very important element in my playing.”
