Maintenant qu’il nous est permis d’espérer de voguer un peu plus sereinement, nous allons pouvoir compléter le dernier tiers de la trilogie Monteverdi qu’Iván Fischer, lors de trop brèves escales, avait entamée. Après L’Orfeo et Poppea, c’est Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, le moins connu des trois opéras survivants de Claudio Monteverdi, qui complétera le périple en nous amenant vers Ithaque. L’œuvre a souffert du fait d’avoir été redécouverte à l’époque moderne sous la forme d’une partition manuscrite incomplète et on a longtemps douté de l’authenticité de ce « vilain petit canard » montéverdien. La griffe du composteur se reconnaît pourtant dans la variété de ses styles musicaux : les formes à la mode de l’arioso, des duos et des ensembles y côtoient les récitatifs déclamatoires de la seconda prattica développés dans L’Orfeo. Avec une rare éloquence, il développe les caractères, sentiments et émotions des nombreux personnages, divins et humains, pour réaliser le volet le plus tendre et émouvant du triptyque. Après son long voyage de retour de Troie, Ulysse rentre enfin à Ithaque où un trio de prétendants malveillants importune sa fidèle épouse Pénélope. L’homme aux mille ruses est face à son ultime défi : faire triompher la constance et la vertu sur la trahison et la tromperie. Après l’Énéide revue par Purcell et réinventée par Peeping Tom, il nous fallait un autre célèbre collectif dramatique belge déjanté pour se mesurer à L’Odyssée. Fondé en 2008, FC Bergman s’est très vite fait remarquer par son langage théâtral anarchiste, légèrement chaotique, mais très évocateur et poétique. Par une imbrication ingénieuse de cinéma et de théâtre, de jeu d’acteur et de scénographies stupéfiantes, ils racontent, parfois sans paroles, un monde où les humains se battent en vain contre les moulins à vent de leur existence. Le sujet d’Ulysse, naufragé à répétition sur son chemin de retour, semble être tout désigné pour ce groupe qui réunit, selon un critique, « le naturalisme mystique de Romeo Castellucci, l’absurdisme mélancolique de Christoph Marthaler, et la dynamique dansante de Pina Bausch ». En 2018, lors de leur première escapade à l’opéra avec Les Pêcheurs de perles, ils ont marqué avec succès Anvers, Luxembourg et Lille. Il est logique que la suite de cette odyssée fantastique se fasse à Genève. Après avoir joué le jeu d’une relecture en profondeur du Sérail, Fabio Biondi nous revient, épaulé cette fois par son ensemble Europa Galante, pour une interprétation d’Ulisse que nous espérons voir susciter autant de passions… En tête de la grande distribution de spécialistes, dans le rôle-titre le charismatique ténor anglais bien connu des fans du baroque, Mark Padmore et en Pénélope, la fulgurante Sara Mingardo, inoubliable Neris de Medea au GTG en 2015.

Now that we can hope to sail a little more serenely, we will be able to complete the last third of the Monteverdi trilogy that Iván Fischer, during too brief stops, had started. After L'Orfeo and Poppea , it's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, the least known of Claudio Monteverdi's three surviving operas, which will complete the journey by taking us to Ithaca. The work has suffered from being rediscovered in modern times as an incomplete manuscript score and the authenticity of this Monteverdian “ugly duckling” has long been doubted. The composer's hallmark is nonetheless recognizable in the variety of his musical styles: the fashionable forms of the arioso, duets and ensembles rub shoulders with the declamatory recitatives of the seconda prattica developed in L'Orfeo.With rare eloquence, he develops the characters, feelings and emotions of the many characters, divine and human, to create the most tender and moving part of the triptych. After his long journey back from Troy, Odysseus finally returns to Ithaca where a trio of malevolent suitors importune his faithful wife Penelope. The man of a thousand tricks faces his ultimate challenge: to make constancy and virtue triumph over betrayal and deceit. After the Aeneid revised by Purcell and reinvented by Peeping Tom, we needed another famous, crazy Belgian drama collective to compete with The Odyssey. Founded in 2008, FC Bergman quickly stood out for its anarchist theatrical language, slightly chaotic, but very evocative and poetic. Through an ingenious interweaving of cinema and theatre, acting and stunning scenography, they recount, sometimes without words, a world where humans fight in vain against the windmills of their existence. The subject of Ulysses, repeatedly shipwrecked on his way home, seems to be the perfect choice for this group which, according to one critic, brings together "the mystical naturalism of Romeo Castellucci, the melancholy absurdism of Christoph Marthaler, and the dancing dynamics of Pina Bausch”. In 2018, during their first trip to the opera with Les Pêcheurs de pearls, they successfully scored Antwerp, Luxembourg and Lille. It is logical that the continuation of this fantastic odyssey takes place in Geneva. After having played the game of an in-depth re-reading of the Seraglio , Fabio Biondi returns to us, supported this time by his Europa Galante ensemble, for an interpretation of Ulisse that we hope to see arouse as many passions… Leading the large cast of specialists, in the title role the charismatic English tenor well known to fans of the Baroque, Mark Padmore and in Penelope, the dazzling Sara Mingardo, unforgettable Neris de Medea at the GTG in 2015.
