«Трубадур» – опера про непримиренну ворожнечу та віддане кохання, опера гострих контрастів, бурхливих зіткнень і сильних почуттів, які притаманні романтичній драмі. Понад 160 років цей твір Джузеппе Верді залишається одним з найпопулярніших в світі. Поперше завдяки надзвичайній музиці, котра багата красивими мелодіями, що вільно ллються, та близькі до народних співів. Втілюючи долі та переживання героїв, композитор приділив велику увагу життєвому тлу подій, що розгортаються навколо. Образи циган, ченців, солдатів і наближених графа дуже колоритно виписані, окреслені в рельєфних хорах.

Сюжет «Трубадура» запозичено з однойменної п’єси іспанського драматурга Антоніо Гарсія Гутьєрреса (1812 – 1884), яка з успіхом була поставлена в Мадриді в 1836 році. Вона заснована на реальних подіях історії Іспанії XV століття. Це – типова романтична драма із заплутаною інтригою та кривавою розв’язкою, з обов’язковими поєдинками, помстою, отрутою та фатальними таємницями. Романтична драматургія привернула Верді яскравістю фарб, гостротою сценічних ситуацій, кипінням пристрастей, а так само героїчної темою, яка втілена в драмі Гутьєрреса та жваво хвилювала співвітчизників Верді – сучасників і учасників визвольних рухів, що потрясли Італію в XIX столітті. Сюжет настільки захопив композитора, що після складання ретельно продуманого плану опери, де визвольна ідея проявилася дуже рельєфно, музика – мужня і пристрасна, пронизана пафосом волелюбності, – була написана всього за 29 днів. Прем’єра «Трубадура» відбулася 19 січня 1853 року в Римі та відразу завоювала загальне визнання.

"The Troubadour" is an opera about irreconcilable enmity and devoted love, an opera of sharp contrasts, violent clashes and strong feelings that are characteristic of a romantic drama. For more than 160 years, this work by Giuseppe Verdi remains one of the most popular in the world. First of all, thanks to the extraordinary music, which is rich in beautiful melodies that flow freely and are close to folk songs. Embodying the destinies and experiences of the heroes, the composer paid great attention to the background of the events unfolding around him. The images of gypsies, monks, soldiers and close relatives of the count are very colorfully painted, outlined in relief choirs.

The plot of "The Troubadour" is borrowed from the play of the same name by the Spanish playwright Antonio García Gutiérrez (1812 - 1884), which was successfully staged in Madrid in 1836. It is based on real events in the history of Spain in the 15th century. This is a typical romantic drama with a tangled intrigue and a bloody denouement, with obligatory duels, revenge, poison and fatal secrets. Romantic drama attracted Verdi with the brightness of colors, the sharpness of stage situations, the boiling of passions, as well as the heroic theme, which was embodied in Gutierrez's drama and excited Verdi's compatriots - contemporaries and participants in the liberation movements that shook Italy in the 19th century. The plot captivated the composer so much that after drawing up a carefully thought-out plan of the opera, where the liberating idea manifested itself in great relief, the music is courageous and passionate, imbued with the pathos of freedom-loving, - was written in just 29 days. The premiere of "The Troubadour" took place on January 19, 1853 in Rome and immediately won universal recognition.
