Na te pytania opowiada w poniższej zapowiedzi Jan Willem de Vriend, który zadyryguje oratorium Händla w Filharmonii Narodowej już jutro i w sobotę.

Georg Friedrich Händel przez całe życie eksperymentował z różnymi gatunkami. Gdy już wydawało się, że spadek zainteresowania jego operami zmusi Saksończyka do przedwczesnej emerytury, ten zaczął odnosić kolejne wielkie sukcesy na gruncie zreformowanego przez niego gatunku – określanego dzisiaj mianem oratorium angielskiego. Händel postawił w nim na to, z czego wyspiarze słyną do dzisiaj – znakomite chóry, o kilkusetletniej tradycji. W mało którym dziele kompozytora partia chóru pełni tak ważną dramaturgicznie i ilustracyjnie rolę, jak w znakomitym Izraelu w Egipcie. Wystarczy nadmienić, że numerów z partiami solowymi jest tutaj zaledwie kilka. Do najbardziej atrakcyjnych momentów dzieła zaliczają się groteskowe, porywające, a niekiedy wręcz wstrząsające muzyczne obrazy słynnych egipskich plag. Skaczące żaby odmalowane zostały poprzez figlarne punktowe rytmy. Nieznośne brzęczenie muszych skrzydełek naśladują szybkie skrzypcowe przebiegi. Plagę gradu rozpoczynają niewielkie „opady” pojedynczych nut, przechodzące w coraz to szybszą i bardziej żywiołową nawałnicę, pełną „wyładowań atmosferycznych” w partii kotłów. Gwałtowność ta ulega na chwilę spowolnieniu za sprawą fantazyjnie odmalowanej ciemności, tak gęstej, że „można ją było poczuć” – jak podaje libretto. Wielki i wstrząsający finał serii plag stanowi zgładzenie synów pierworodnych, gdzie dramatyczna fuga wybrzmiewa na tle pulsujących – niczym śmiertelnie zadawane ciosy – akordów.

George Frideric Handel experimented with different genres throughout his life. When it seemed that the decline in interest in his operas would force the Saxon to retire prematurely, he began to achieve further great successes in the genre he reformed - today referred to as English oratorio. In it, Handel focused on what the islanders are famous for to this day - excellent choirs with several hundred years of tradition. In few of the composer's works, the chorus part plays such an important dramaturgical and illustrative role as in the excellent Israel in Egypt. Suffice it to say that there are only a few numbers with solo parts here. Among the most attractive moments of the work are grotesque, thrilling and sometimes even shocking musical images of famous Egyptian plagues. Jumping frogs have been depicted through playful punctual rhythms. The unbearable buzzing of fly wings is imitated by fast violin runs. The plague of hail begins with small "falls" of individual notes, turning into an increasingly faster and more lively storm, full of "atmospheric discharges" in the timpani part. This violence is slowed down for a moment by the fancifully depicted darkness, so thick that "you could feel it" - according to the libretto. The great and shocking finale of the series of plagues is the destruction of the firstborn sons,
