This is the whole recording of the live stream of W. A. Mozart's opera La clemenza di Tito in Grieghallen in Bergen 15th of March 2021, with six soloists, Edvard Grieg Kor and Edward Gardner conducting the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (see full credits below.)You can choose between English and Norwegian subtitles in Settings (Closed Captions). This opera has profound relevance to current times, and its miraculous music tells a powerful story. Stage director Rodula Gaitanou explains:
La clemenza di Tito could not be more pertinent: Who is the leader we want to have in times of crisis? Does power bring people together or isolate? Can we forgive without forgetting?All these questions seemed relevant a year ago when we were in rehearsals to bring to life Mozart's masterpiece. But now, after a pandemic has caused chaos, loss, and change, it seems that the contemporary parallels we can draw are striking.We are determined to connect with you, to bring this piece to you, to make art for you. The show is not going to be what we had envisaged initially. The production has been re-thought and redesigned to be able to accommodate safety protocols. It's an abstract rendition of the essence of the piece. It's the naked version of it. Deprived of a specific world, the drama focuses on isolation and broken relationships in both the private and public realms, on all of us humans being on the edge of a personal apocalyptic momeMozart's work is inspiring. There is light at the end of the tunnel, there is hope both in humanity and in the spirit of community. All of us together, we break and we build again, we persevere and survive, we love in isolation and we come together in creation. We celebrate humanity and we look forward to joyful communions. Mozart’s beautiful last opera is set in Rome, and explores the appalling jealousies, ambitions and desperate love affairs during the reign of the emperor Tito. Rome burns, and Sesto, a young man driven by obsessive love for Vitellia the would-be empress, is accused of the crime. But Tito decides on mercy rather than the exercise of power.

La clemenza di Tito kunne ikke ha vært mer aktuell: Hvilken type leder ønsker vi i krisetider? Bringer makt mennesker sammen eller isoleres vi? Kan vi tilgi uten å glemme? Alle disse spørsmålene virket relevante for et år siden da vi startet prøvene på vår moderne versjon av Mozarts mesterverk. LIVE OPERA - ENDELIG
For et år siden sto regissør Rodula Gaitanou sammen med alle operaens medvirkende i sjokk på scenen i Grieghallen, da beskjeden kom om at La clemenza di Tito måtte avlyses rett før premieren da verden stengte ned. Men, selv om det har vært utfordring på utfordring også etterpå, er vi fast bestemt på å fremføre denne operaen for deg. Forestillingen kommer ikke til å være det vi planla i starten. Produksjonen er snudd rundt på og omformet for å kunne følge gjeldende restriksjoner og sikkerhetsrutiner.

APOKALYPSE OG LYS
Det er den nakne versjonen, selve essensen av stykket, du får oppleve. Dramaet går rett inn i temaet isolasjon og ødelagte relasjoner både på det private og offentlige plan - et felles møtested der alle mennesker står på kanten av et personlig og apokalyptisk øyeblikk.

Mozarts opera er inspirerende. Det er lys i enden av tunnelen, det finnes håp i menneskeheten og fellesskapets ånd. Vi blir nedbrutt og bygger oss opp igjen, vi holder ut og kommer sammen i det skapende. Vi feirer menneskeheten og ser frem til gledelige gjensyn. Snart – og sammen.

NORSKE SOLISTER I ALLE ROLLENE
Vi gleder oss over å kunne presentere et topplag norske sangere i alle rollene: Tenoren Bror Magnus Tødenes har den utfordrende tittelrollen som Tito og sopranen Beate Mordal er hans hevngjerrige motpart Vitellia. Mezzosopranen Ingeborg Gillebo har bukserollen som Annio og Frøy Hovland Holtbakk er hans modige kjæreste Servilia. Mezzosopranen Adrian Angelico står sentralt i operaen som den dypt forelskede mannen Sesto, som følger Vitellias morderiske vei. Bassbarytonen Christian Valle har rollen som Publio.
