A REVIVAL of one of the greatest successes of Pablo Sorozábal and the Teatro de la Zarzuela, La del manojo de rosas is a love story, a sainete (Spanish light comedy opera) which is transformed into a critical look at life while maintaining the essence of the genre. It is the story of a working class girl who is proud of her social status and refuses to use marriage as a way to improve her situation. Taking place in Madrid during the Republic, the characters dispense with stereotypes as easily as they dance to rhythms echoing from across the Atlantic. The production by Emilio Sagi is one of his best in a long and much acknowledged career.
