Un principe sconosciuto, una principessa bellissima e di ghiaccio, una giovane schiava, tre ministri dell’imperatore cialtroni e impudenti. L’ultima opera del grande Giacomo Puccini si svolge infatti all’interno di una Cina misteriosa e affascinante che si svela attraverso le note come un nastro di seta cangiante che mostri le molteplici facce dell’amore: la passione irrefrenabile di Calaf e la lucida ferocia della principessa, il tenero sentimento di Liù e la costante attrazione per i vincitori del popolo di Pechino, pronto a cambiare idea al minimo mutare degli eventi. E poi i saggi ammonimenti dei ministri, confusi da una falsa bontà bagnata di ironia a fare da contraltare ad un boia malvagio e sordo davanti a qualunque richiesta di grazia.
