Het Radio Filharmonisch Orkest speelt onder leiding van Enno Poppe twee werken uit verschillende stijlperioden van György Ligeti.

Lokale tradities en atmosferische klankwolken
Voor het Vioolconcert (1993) ging György Ligeti te rade bij volkstradities uit Oost-Azië, voor de lyrische solopartij ook bij de muziek uit zijn geboorteland. Door af te wijken van de westerse stemming schept hij een uniek klankbeeld. Atmosphères (1961) is een van de eerste werken waarin hij gebruikmaakt van micropolyfonie, waarin dicht bij elkaar bewegende melodielijnen complexe klankwolken vormen. Het is deze muziek die een zinsbegoochelende tocht door ruimte en tijd begeleidt aan het einde van Stanley Kubricks 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Poppe, Hirs, Langgaard en Ligeti
Enno Poppes orkestwerk Hirn (2021) is door zijn verschuivende klankvlakken enigszins verwant aan de 'vroege' Ligeti. De hersens ('Hirn') verbindt hij niet alleen aan nadenken en overdenken (de 'Duitse traditie'), maar ook aan de ziel, trance en opwinding. Rozalie Hirs schrijft een nieuw werk waarin zij zich laat leiden door Ligeti's open, creatieve mentaliteit. Hans Abrahamsen bewerkte de drie laatste delen van de Gitanjali-hymnen, een pianowerk van de Deense, laat-romantische Rued Langgaard, voor orkest. Langgaards vrijwel vergeten muziek was voor Ligeti een grote ontdekking.

Local traditions and atmospheric clouds of sound
For the Violin Concerto (1993) György Ligeti consulted folk traditions from East Asia, and for the lyrical solo part also the music from his native land. By deviating from Western tuning, he creates a unique sound. Atmosphères (1961) is one of the first works in which he uses micropolyphony, in which closely moving melody lines form complex clouds of sound. It is this music that accompanies a sense-making journey through space and time at the end of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Poppe, Hirs, Langgaard and Ligeti
Enno Poppe's orchestral work Hirn (2021) is somewhat akin to the "early" Ligeti through its shifting planes of sound. He connects the brain ('Hirn') not only to thought and contemplation (the 'German tradition'), but also to the soul, trance and excitement. Rozalie Hirs is writing a new work in which she is guided by Ligeti's open, creative mindset. Hans Abrahamsen arranged the last three movements of the Gitanjali Hymns, a piano work by the Danish, late-romantic Rued Langgaard, for orchestra. Langgaard's virtually forgotten music was a great discovery for Ligeti.
