Enrico wants to marry off his sister Lucia to the powerful Lord Arturo Bucklaw in order to save his existence. Lucia, on the other hand, has sworn eternal loyalty to Edgardo Ravenswood, Enrico's mortal enemy. With a forged letter accusing Edgardo of infidelity, Enrico succeeds in persuading Lucia to marry Lord Bucklaw. Edgardo appears at the wedding and curses Lucia. She kills her husband. Edgardo challenges Enrico to a duel. Lucia is seized with madness that leads to death.

Donizetti's most famous tragic opera goes back to Sir Walter Scott's popular 1819 novel: The Bride of Lammermoor.

With "Lucia di Lammermoor" Donizetti created one of the most famous operas in Italian bel canto and with the madcap aria of Lucia one of the most multifaceted and dramatic arias in opera literature.

The British director Sam Brown is in international demand after winning the European Opera Directing Award and the renowned "RING AWARD" at the latest. Among other things, he has directed at the Bavarian State Opera, Munich and the English National Opera, London.
