Tragická opera, jejíž děj se odehrává na počátku 20. století v japonském městě Nagasaki, vypráví o cti, zklamání, zradě a nenaplněné touze. Příběh upřímné lásky mladičké gejši k námořnímu důstojníkovi, který se s ní z flirtu ožení a poté se vrátí zpět do Ameriky, poskytl skladateli námět, jež je přímo nabitý emocemi. Působivá melodika ve spojení s hudební kresbou japonského koloritu podtrhuje psychologii postav, kterou přesně vystihuje a do detailu rozkrývá. Tato opera je jedním z nejslavnějších a nejhranějších Pucciniho děl. Diváci se mohou těšit na skvělé obsazení, v němž se představí špičky současné české operní scény

The tragic opera, which takes place at the beginning of the 20th century in the Japanese city of Nagasaki, tells the story of honor, disappointment, betrayal and unfulfilled desire. The story of a young geisha's sincere love for a naval officer who flirts with her and marries her and then returns to America provided the composer with a theme that is directly charged with emotions. The impressive melody combined with the musical drawing of the Japanese color underlines the psychology of the characters, which it describes precisely and reveals in detail. This opera is one of Puccini's most famous and most performed works. The audience can look forward to a great cast, in which the best of the contemporary Czech opera scene will be presented.
