Matthias Goerne is a giant in every sense of the word, physically and vocally. He is without a doubt the most beautiful voice of the German lied of his generation and in particular for Schubert, a repertoire that he has constantly questioned for more than twenty years on stage and on record. At the height of his abilities, he masters his instrument in all its nuances, thus offering the beauties and treasures of a sovereign legato. A worthy heir to a Schwarzkopf or a Fischer-Dieskau, he excels in underlining the slightest inflection, in rendering the carnality of each word, if not each syllable. A great moment of musicality from a performer at the peak of his art.

Matthias Goerne est un géant dans tous les sens du terme, physiquement et vocalement. Il est sans aucun conteste la plus belle voix du lied allemand de sa génération et en particulier pour Schubert, un répertoire que sans cesse il interroge depuis plus de vingt ans à la scène comme au disque. Au sommet de ses moyens, il maîtrise son instrument dans toutes ses nuances offrant ainsi les beautés et trésors d’un legato souverain. Digne héritier d’une Schwarzkopf ou d’un Fischer-Dieskau, il excelle à souligner la moindre inflexion, à rendre le charnel de chaque mot, si ce n’est chaque syllabe.
