Homme d’opéra, Verdi a donné un souffle extraordinaire à sa Messe de requiem, composée entre Aïda et Otello. Le déchaîne­ment de colère divine dans le Dies irae (« jour de colère ») ne saurait cependant résumer à lui seule une partition dont les contrastes sont incessants : les solos emplis de ferveur et les prières extatiques, tels le Sanctus et l’Agnus Dei, disent sur un tout autre ton l’inspiration du compositeur lorsqu’il s’agit d’affirmer son attitude face au Jugement dernier. Il n’est pas anodin que l’œuvre débute et s’achève dans le chuchotement. Les artistes du Chœur d’Angers Nantes Opéra retrouvent leurs confrères et consœurs du Chœur et de l’Orchestre National des Pays de Loire sous la conduite exigeante et inspirée de leur directeur Sascha Goetzel.

A man of opera, Verdi gave an extraordinary breath to his Messe de requiem , composed between Aïda and Otello . The unleashing of divine wrath in the Dies irae ("day of wrath") cannot, however, alone sum up a score whose contrasts are incessant: solos filled with fervor and ecstatic prayers, such as the Sanctus and the Agnus  Dei ,say in a completely different tone the inspiration of the composer when it comes to affirming his attitude towards the Last Judgment. It is not insignificant that the work begins and ends in a whisper. The artists of the Chœur d'Angers Nantes Opéra find their colleagues from the Chœur and the Orchester National des Pays de Loire under the demanding and inspired guidance of their director Sascha Goetzel.
