Philippe Herreweghe, das Collegium Vocale Gent und Johann Sebastian Bach – das ist seit mittlerweile über 50 Jahren eine überaus beglückende Verbindung! Kein Wunder also, dass das umfangreiche Schaffen des Leipziger Thomaskantors auf das Engste verwoben ist mit dem glänzenden Renommee, das der belgische Dirigent und sein exzellentes Ensemble weltweit genießen. Eine zentrale Säule des Repertoires ist da natürlich die Messe in h-Moll. Entstanden zwischen 1724 und 1749, ist sie heute einer der markanten Meilensteine der sakralen Musik und bildet mit ihrem Reichtum an Arien, Duetten und Chören einen der Höhepunkte im Gesamtwerk Bachs. Der Musikfest-Preisträger von 2021 und sein Collegium Vocale Gent haben diesen »Mont Blanc der Kirchenmusik« (Franz Liszt) nunmehr bereits drei Mal eingespielt. Durch diese jahrzehntelange, intensive Beschäftigung dringt Herreweghe mit seiner transparenten und schlanken Sichtweise wie kaum ein Zweiter zu der Essenz von Bachs monumentaler Partitur vor und lotet die dramatische und emotionale Bandbreite des Meisterwerks vollends aus – ein Erlebnis!

Philippe Herreweghe, the Collegium Vocale Gent and Johann Sebastian Bach - this has been an extremely happy connection for more than 50 years now! No wonder, then, that the extensive work of the Leipzig Thomaskantor is so closely intertwined with the brilliant reputation that the Belgian conductor and his excellent ensemble enjoy worldwide. A central pillar of the repertoire is of course the Mass in B minor. Written between 1724 and 1749, today it is one of the distinctive milestones of sacred music and, with its wealth of arias, duets and choruses, represents one of the highlights of Bach's entire oeuvre.
