Roberto Alagna: Concert Various

​​French-Italian tenor Roberto Alagna has been hailed by The New York Times for his “powerful, ardent singing… [and] heartfelt intensity.” Following musical studies in Paris, Alagna won first prize in the 1988 Luciano Pavarotti International Competition and has been a pivotal figure in the opera world ever since. Frequently singing at renowned theatres such as La Scala and Covent Garden, he has performed the roles of Roméo, Rodolpho, Werther and Faust with equal vigour and to great fanfare.  While he is internationally celebrated for his Italian repertoire, Alagna has always been curious about operatic works from other traditions and his interest in French opera has led him in recent years to become an advocate of restoring to prominence neglected French operas like Massenet's Le Jongleur de Notre-Dame and Lalo's Fiesque. He has also recorded lighter music, to which he brings the same intensity of voice and passion that he brings to his operatic performances. For the Royal Opera House Muscat, Alagna will perform works from Verdi’s Luisa Miller and La forza del destino; Halevy’s La Juive; Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette; Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sadko; Tchaikowsky’s Eugene Onegin; Goldmark’s Die Königen von Saba; and Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci.
