The production of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's masterpiece Sadko is a co-production of the SND Opera and the Flemish Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. The director of the production is the excellent American filmmaker Daniel Kramer, who will perform in Bratislava for the first time.

The fairy-tale opera by Russian romantic Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov echoes the story of musician Sadek, who wants to encourage others to escape from isolation, from the closed environment of their homeland and to discover new worlds. However, his dream runs into rejection and mistrust. Only the daughter of a sea ruler, the beautiful Volkhovna, abducted by his music, helps him realize his visionary thoughts. Medieval herbs and epics about the title adventurer, merchant and singer, which he combined with various legends about the seas, became a model for the composer in this opera, constantly balancing between the world of people and sea beings and between myth and reality. Sadko is a kind of Slavic Orpheus and at the same time Odyssey. It embodies the age-old creative power of fantasy, which fights reality.

The production of Korsakov's masterpiece is a joint production of the SND Opera and the Flemish Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. The excellent American filmmaker Daniel Kramer will perform as a director in Bratislava for the first time.
