Since 2007, the Pole Star Award has been awarded to a young musician - between the ages of 14 and 18 - who plays one of the classical instruments. Last year's competition was the first to invite candidates from all the Nordic countries.

The 2023 winner was the then 15-year-old cellist Inez Karlsson, who impressed the jury and who received the prize of 50,000 kroner with the motivation " An elegant musician with an extreme focus and a wonderful sound, with a strong and obvious presence that touches the audience. A young musician who can go anywhere she wants with her talent. "

In addition to the prize money, a concert in Berwaldhallen during the Baltic Sea Festival is also included for the winner, and on 26 August there will be a place on stage for Inez Karlsson, the Polstjärnepris symphony orchestra and the conductors Marco Crispo and Esa-Pekka Salonen who share the concert.

Musically, we travel around the world and back and forth in time. From the 19th and 20th century Nordic giants Carl Nielsen and Edvard Grieg, Czech Antonín Dvořák, Russian Igor Stravinsky to the modern Swedish and Australian composers Dag Wirén and David Robinson.

Polstjärnepriset har sedan 2007 delats ut till en ung musiker – mellan 14 och 18 år – som spelar något av de klassiska instrumenten. Förra årets tävling var den första som bjöd in kandidater från alla de nordiska länderna.

2023 års vinnare blev den då 15 år gamla cellisten Inez Karlsson som imponerade på juryn och som mottog priset på 50 000 kronor med motiveringen ”En elegant musiker med ett extremt fokus och en underbar klang, med en stark och självklar närvaro som berör publiken. Utöver prissumman ingår även en konsert i Berwaldhallen under Östersjöfestivalen för vinnaren och den 26 augusti är det plats på scen för Inez Karlsson, Polstjärneprisets symfoniorkester och dirigenterna Marco Crispo och Esa-Pekka Salonen som delar på konserten.

Musikaliskt reser vi runt jorden och fram och tillbaka i tiden. Från 1800 och 1900-talets nordiska giganter Carl Nielsen och Edvard Grieg, tjeckiske Antonín Dvořák, ryska Igor Stravinsky till de moderna svenska och australiensiska kompositörerna Dag Wirén och David Robinson.
