Mozart and Haydn: Concert Various

We are very happy for our regular collaboration with Bodø Domkor about these concerts, and this time we have two atmospheric works on the program; a motet by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Mass of Creation by Joseph Haydn.

Mozart's Exsultate jubilate was written during three weeks in December 1772, while Mozart was in Milan for the premiere of his opera Lucia Silla, and had its premiere in the Church of San Antonio in January the following year. This motet was originally written for castrated singer Venanzio Rauzzini, a personal favorite of Mozart, but today the solo voice is usually sung by a soprano.

Haydn's Creation Fair from 1801 is not the composer's most famous, but is in no way inferior to the most famous, such as the Nelson Fair . Haydn takes full advantage of the possibilities and richness of sound in both choir, orchestra and soloists, and not least with contrasting changes in mood. The Creation Mass bears its name as a result of a musical quote from Haydn's very famous oratorio Creation ; in the halo movement he has simply reused 8 bars of his own work. A myth states that Maria Theresa, wife of Emperor Franz II, considered this a scandal, and ordered Haydn to make another version of the passage. There is no historical evidence for this myth, and the quote is to be heard in the version we play at this concert.
