The freedom of art and love is gagged by the dark men of power in Puccini's dramatic masterpiece, Tosca. Tosca premiered in Rome in 1900 and is today one of the world's most popular operas.

The action takes place in Rome in the 19th century, where the kingdom of Naples is threatened by Napoleon's invasion of Italy. Singer Tosca is caught in a triangular drama between the painter Cavaradossi and the ruthless police chief Scarpia. The drama between these three people is the essence of an intense and bloody opera where nothing can stop the police chief's desire for the singer. Tosca is the story of love, light and the dark sides of man.

Puccini draws Scarpia's dark disharmonies in stark contrast to the loving couple's beautiful music, such as Cavaradossi's famous tower "E lucevan le stelle" and Tusca's life credo "Vissi d'arte".
