What images of women do we see in the opera “ Turandot“? The self-sacrificing woman? The woman who only notices the man when he has "conquered" her at the risk of his life? The hero who has to win over a woman at the risk of her life? Do you have more power over someone if you know their name and identity? And why do those who hide their names always seem more powerful? At first, Princess Turandot is a rather cold ruler without much qualms. She sets the rules of a life-threatening questioning game: Only those who solve the three riddles can win her as a wife. If you guess wrong, you will be beheaded. Many applicants face the deadly questions... Only the hero from abroad, the nameless Calaf, cracks both the riddles and the ice armor of the princess. He couldn't have done it alone. Liù, who dies (for him), solves the riddle for him.

Welche Frauenbilder sehen wir in der Oper „Turandot“? Die sich aufopfernde Frau? Die Frau, die den Mann erst wahrnimmt, wenn er sie unter Lebensgefahr „erobert“ hat? Den Helden, der eine Frau unter Lebensgefahr gewinnen muss? Hat man mehr Macht über einen Menschen, wenn man den Namen und die Identität kennt? Und warum erscheinen immer diejenigen mächtiger, die ihren Namen verschweigen? Prinzessin Turandot ist zuerst eine kalte Herrscherin ohne Skrupel. Sie setzt die Regeln eines lebensgefährlichen Fragespiels: Nur wer die drei Rätsel löst, kann sie zur Frau gewinnen. Wer falsch rät, wird geköpft. Viele Bewerber stellen sich den todbringenden Fragen...  Nur der Held aus der Fremde, der namenlose Calaf knackt sowohl die Rätsel als auch den Eispanzer der Prinzessin. Allein hätte er es nicht gekonnt. Das Rätsel löst für ihn Liù, die (für ihn) stirbt.
