Koblenz, GermanyThe Dutch bass-baritone Nico Wouterse initially studied classical saxophone at the Maastricht conservatory of music. He then studied singing and opera with Mya Besselink at the same conservatory. He also took lessons with Margret Honig in Amsterdam, Jean-Pierre Blivet in Paris and Daniel-Lewis Williams in Trier and Munich. During his studies, Wouterse was a member of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège (Belgium), where he was given his first solo roles. He also received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Society in Dessau and was a finalist at the singing competition in Marmande, France. At the same time as graduating from conservatory, Wouterse was engaged as a soloist at the Trier Theatre, where he sang roles such as Leporello, Don Pizarro and Don Pasquale, before joining the soloi
