Our History
Founded in 1982, Associazione Bologna Festival has distinguished itself over time for the cultural rigour of its programmes, inviting great international concert artists and designing special concert series and seasons, often in exclusive. The festival is comprised of different concert series: “Great Performers”, dedicated to the great Classical and Romantic repertoire and to symphonic and choral masterpieces; “Talents”, a space open to promising young European concert artists; “The Ancient and the New”, that combines Early Music – always proposed in historically informed performances – to 20th Century and Contemporary Music. The 27-years-long Artistic Direction by Mario Messinis has extended the musical interests of the festival way beyond the more usual repertoire of the 18th and 19th Centuries, paying attention to both Early Music and to the most advanced trends in contemporary music, with specific projects. In December 2019, the Board of Directors appointed Maddalena da Lisca as Superintendent of Bologna Festival, with both administrative and artistic responsibilities. The President of the Association, Federico Stame, and the other Members of the Association are among the most prominent figures of the enterpreneurial, professional and cultural panorama in Bologna. The activities of the Association are aimed also at reaching a younger audience with two specific projects that involve about 12.000 young people every year: “Baby BoFe’”, that proposes classical music events for children; “Notes on the Book”, an educational project aimed at educating the listening skills of Middle and High School students.
