With the Haydn Institute in Cologne practically in the neighbourhood, it is not surprising that Andreas Spering is now the conductor in Germany who has made the Austrian composer's rediscovered rarities his repertoire trademark. He regularly brings Haydn's opera treasures to his festival in Brühl's Augustusburg Castle for a modern premiere on historical instruments, this year there was the 1968 score technically revamped, later in Zurich, there more recently in 2009 by Adam Fischer (shortened), a day later in London by Trevor Pinnock launched La fedeltà premiata on modern equipmenton the plan. This lets seven characters (i.e. would-be couples) compete seriously and cabaretly for love and loyalty or the opposite around the temple of Diana in the cursed idyll of Cuma. With this Dramma pastorale giocoso, Spering and his Capella Augustina were once again invited to the Early Music Days in Herne , this time under the festival motto “Tragic – Comic”.
