The Orchestra Senzaspine is an association of about 450 musicians under 35. The orchestra was founded in 2013 by the idea of two friends, the young conductors Tommaso Ussardi and Matteo Parmeggiani, currently President and Vice President of the Association. The mission is extremely ambitious: not only bringing the classical music back to the love of the audience, but also giving a chance to young orchestral musicians to test themselves with the most challenging and captivating symphonic repertoire in order to be ready for the professional world. All done with a pop and social approach, simple and engaging, which combines the elegance of tradition with the future, by creating attractive concert-shows thus eliminating the prejudices connected to classical music. Nine years after their foundation, the Senzaspine Orchestra has turned stereotypes upside-down and revolutionized the common perception of classical music. Until now the Orchestra, in different formation, has more than 400 musical events to its credit and has collaborated with internationally renowned soloists such as Enrico Dindo, Mario Brunello, Simone Alberghini, Anna Tifu, Domenico Nordio, Pablo Ziegler, Bruno Praticò, Cinzia Forte, Luciano Acocella, Marco Albonetti, Anastasiya Petryshak, Silvia Chiesa, Paolo Grazia, Erica Piccotti, Olaf Laneri, Sofya Gulyak, Dejan Bogdanovich, Jonathan Roozeman, Laura Marzadori, Pietro Beltrani.  
Over the years the Orchestra has undertaken several tours and collaborations with important Italian festivals, including Bologna Festival, Stresa Festival, Amiata Festival, Festival Anima Mundi, The New Generation Festival, Festival da Firenze all'Europa - Giovani Musicisti a Palazzo Pitti, Figaro! Opera Camion 2018, Paganini Guitar Festival 2019, EUR Culture per Roma. Since summer 2021, the Orchestra Senzaspine has been the new orchestra in residence for the summer advanced musical training courses at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena for the Conducting course held by Maestro Daniele Gatti. 
Since 2015, thanks to the tender Incredibol! promoted by the Municipality of Bologna, the Senzaspine Orchestra has obtained an official location: the Mercato Sonato, a former local market, now scene of a unique intervention of urban and cultural regeneration in Europe. The Mercato Sonato together with its first season was inaugurated in 2016, establishing a rich network of collaborations and partnerships with several cultural associations and Third Sector organisations. In 2017, with the launch of the second season, the Senzaspine School of Music was opened to easily spread the study of classical music among the youngest.  
The Senzaspine Association concretely promotes the meeting and collaboration among different artistic disciplines and the fusion of musical genres. Dedicated workshops and laboratory activities are offered to all age groups. 
Among the initiatives aimed at attracting people new to classical music, the most successful ones are the flash mob “Conduct us”, the “Off Pitch Choir” and the “Social Concert”. In 2017 the Association also launched the first edition of ClassXfactor, a national competition for young classical soloists. The activity of the Senzaspine Association is sponsored and supported by MiBACT, the Emilia Romagna Region, the Municipality of Bologna, San Donato-San Vitale District, Arci Bologna and some private partners. The Association projects have received important national awards such as “Culturability_2015” promoted by the Fondazione Unipolis, “Funder35_2017” promoted by ACRI, “S'illumina_2017” promoted by Siae, which enabled the creation of "Masnada", a circus opera in collaboration with MagdaClan Circo. The Senzaspine Orchestra was also a partner of the international project “Silent city” as part of the official program of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019.  
In 2020, were realised two ministerial projects with a high cultural and social profile. The first one 'Silence - A community opera' realised in collaboration with Creazioni Indigeste from Udine and L'Albero from Matera was supported by the MiC's Boarding Pass Plus call; a project that  aimed at the realisation of artistic residencies on the Italian and Croatian territory, then transformed into an online and offline path dedicated to Italian and European artists. The second "Mercato Sonato - Immaginari periferici" won the Creative Living Lab Award of the DG Creatività Contemporanea, and were involved 10 partners in the Bologna area and over 50 artists for the realisation of a co-creation path of performances, explorations and self-construction in the San Donato-San Vitale district. In 2021, Senzaspine Network was established, an association created to develop actions with a strong social impact and to carry on all the activities of music promotion and training that Senzaspine promotes on the national territory.
