Peggy Steiner was born in Dresden. After classical ballet training and her Abitur, she studied singing at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin with Magdalena Hajossyova. She was a student in the song class of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau for several years and was an active participant in courses by Julia Varady, Peter Schreier and Eberhard Büchner. Peggy Steiner was awarded a scholarship by the Bayreuth Festival and the Hans and Eugenia Jütting Foundation. She was one of the finalists in the “Beautiful Voices” competition organized by the Bertelsmann Foundation. As part of the Munich Singing School she sang in the final concert under the baton of Marcello Viotti with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra in the Prinzregententheater.
