In this concert, the poetry of Charles Baudelaire meets the intellectual world of Friedrich Nietzsche, the music of the "magician of tonal colors" Henri Dutilleux meets the ingenious work of Richard Strauss and two exceptional French artists of our time meet the musicians of the Philharmonic State Orchestra. The cello concerto already reveals in its title "Tout un monde lointain ..." where the poetic aura of the work comes from: It is Baudelaire's world of ideas - "a very distant world, absent, almost extinct" from his volume of poems "Les Fleurs du mal" (" The Flowers of Evil") from which Dutilleux was inspired. The composer precedes each of the five movements with verses from the famous collection as an epigraph.
The score of Strauss's Alpine Symphony leads from night into the rising sun, through forests, meadows, undergrowth and thicket - the pure natural idyll of the Alps in its captivating beauty and merciless loneliness. The fact that his last major orchestral work, following Nietzsche's impulses, originally began with Der Antichrist. Eine Alpensymphonie" and is permeated by the overcoming of Christianity and the hope for a better humanity, the composer left unpublished. What remains is the "worship of eternally glorious nature," as Strauss put it in a note in his desk calendar.

In diesem Konzert treffen die Poesie Charles Baudelaires auf die Gedankenwelt Friedrich Nietzsches, die Musik des „Magiers der Klangfarben“ Henri Dutilleux auf das genialische Schaffen Richard Strauss’ und zwei französische Ausnahmekünstler unserer Zeit auf die Musiker*innen des Philharmonischen Staatsorchesters. Das Cellokonzert verrät bereits in seinem Titel „Tout un monde lointain …“ woher die poetische Aura des Werkes rührt: Es ist die Gedankenwelt Baudelaires – „eine ganz ferne Welt, abwesend, fast erloschen“ aus seinem Gedichtband „Les Fleurs du mal“ („Die Blumen des Bösen“) von der sich Dutilleux inspirieren ließ. Jedem der fünf Sätze stellt der Komponist Verse aus der berühmten Sammlung als Epigraph voran.
Die Partitur der Strauss’schen Alpensymphonie führt von der Nacht in die aufgehende Sonne, durch Wälder, Wiesen, Gestrüpp und Dickicht – das reine Naturidyll der Alpen in seiner berückenden Schönheit wie gnadenlosen Einsamkeit. Dass sein letztes großes Orchesterwerk den Impulsen Nietzsches folgend ursprünglich mit „Der Antichrist. Eine Alpensymphonie“ überschrieben war und von der Überwindung des Christentums und der Hoffnung auf eine bessere Menschheit durchdrungen ist, ließ der Komponist unveröffentlicht. Was bleibt ist die „Anbetung der ewigen herrlichen Natur“, wie Strauss es in einer Notiz in seinem Schreibtisch-Kalender ausdrückt.
