In addition to the »Historia von Doktor Faustus«, »Till Eulenspiegel« was the best-known of the so-called folk books, which took up medieval verses and spread rapidly from 1450 onwards with the invention of the printing press. Georg Fritzsch, currently General Music Director of the partner city of Karlsruhe, which is also home to a Staatskapelle and Handel Festival, spans the arc from Max Reger's »Mozart Variations« to »Till«, for which Strauss erected a musical monument. The focus of this evening is the rarely played 2nd Violin Concerto in D minor by Max Bruch with Arkadi Marasch, the 1st concertmaster of the Staatskapelle.
