With a colorful wreath of pre-Christmas choral music, the Cologne Bach Society is continuing the cherished tradition of its Christmas concerts on the afternoon of the second Advent. The focus is on Benjamin Britten's Christmas carol cycle "A Ceremony of Carols" for women's choir and harp, whose special magic lies in the use of medieval and Old English texts as well as in a multifaceted and contrasting compositional technique. This popular choral work is flanked by the meditative-spherical sounds of the British (late) Renaissance masters Robert Cowper, William Byrd and Thomas Weelkes. In addition, in addition to traditional tunes, a cappella movements by Johannes Brahms, Max Reger, Lajos Bárdos, Herbert Howells, John Tavener and Bob Chilcott, born in 1955.

Mit einem bunten Kranz vorweihnachtlicher Chormusik setzt der Bach-Verein Köln am Nachmittag des 2. Advents die lieb gewonnene Tradition seiner Weihnachtskonzerte fort. Im Zentrum steht dabei Benjamin Brittens Weihnachtslieder-Zyklus »A Ceremony of Carols« für Frauenchor und Harfe, dessen besonderer Zauber sowohl in der Verwendung mittelalterlicher und altenglischer Texte als auch in einer facetten- und kontrastreichen Kompositionstechnik liegt. Flankiert wird dieses beliebte Chorwerk von meditativ-sphärischen Klängen der britischen (Spät-)Renaissance-Meister Robert Cowper, William Byrd und Thomas Weelkes. Darüber hinaus erklingen – neben traditionellen Weisen – A-cappella-Sätze von Johannes Brahms, Max Reger, Lajos Bárdos, Herbert Howells, John Tavener sowie dem 1955 geborenen Bob Chilcott, der nicht nur auf der Insel als »zeitgenössischer Held der britischen Chormusik« gefeiert wird.
