Under the direction of Leonardo García Alarcón, the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France ventures into the repertoire of Handel's operas. On the program: Acis et Galatea , a pastoral which performs a brilliant synthesis of English and Italian styles, with da capo arias and an important contribution required from the choirs. The argument comes from the Metamorphosesby Ovide, who had already inspired Lully to write an opera (1686), and boldly mixes comedy and tragedy. She gradually erases the transparent lightness of the landscapes of Arcadia, where the shepherds Acis and Galatea flourish, in favor of darker, more worried atmospheres, until the rediscovered serenity of the end, when Galatea, in mourning , abandons himself to peace by making the corpse of his beloved a spring that flows through the grove.
