"Aida", which takes place in ancient Egypt, was written for modern Egypt of its era and first saw the light on the stage of one of the first theaters of the African continent - the royal opera of Cairo. This opera has everything that attracts the audience to the theater - love and rivalry, war and passion, exotic dances and solemn processions. And the scope of the events taking place in it - the war of one nation against another, the revenge of the vanquished, politics and espionage - makes directors compete century after century in the pomp and showiness of stage incarnations of Aida.

Spectators watch in rapture as the Egyptian commander Radames, the captive Ethiopian princess Aida and the pharaoh's daughter Amneris must make an impossible choice: love or homeland, love or freedom, love or revenge, and ultimately - love or life. The impeccable orchestral and melodic writing of Verdi, who reached the pinnacle of his composing skill in this opera, helps to convey the cosmic drama that unfolds in the soul of each of the characters.

The production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Aida" has always been a great event for our theater, for which the best directors and artists were invited. In the 1930s, two productions were produced by Isidor Zak, then a conductor on the staff of the theatre, who later became one of the founding fathers of the Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk Opera Theatres. The set designer for Aida in 1946 was Simon Virsaladze, an outstanding theatrical artist, whose work is still a model for colleagues. And the 1974 performance was designed by mother and daughter, Tamara and Irina Starzhenetsky, theater artists and painters who worked a lot at the Bolshoi Theater. In 1992, choreographer Igor Chernyshev created his production of Aida, who led the ballet troupe SATOB (KTOB) from 1979 to 1995, and in fact was the artistic director of the theater. Since there is a lot of instrumental music in Aida and there is even a separate ballet scene, this opera gives a lot of scope for both directing and choreographer work. Chernyshev's performance, which was praised for its traditional character but criticized for its lack of sophistication, stayed in the SATOB repertoire for 16 seasons.

The current production of "Aida" became the winner of the Samara theatrical audience award "Bravo" in the nomination "Best Musical Performance".

А размах событий, совершающихся в ней, – война одной нации с другой, реванш побежденных, политика и шпионаж, – заставляет постановщиков век за веком соревноваться в пышности и эффектности сценических воплощений «Аиды».

Зрители же упоенно следят за тем, как египетский военачальник Радамес, пленная эфиопская принцесса Аида и дочь фараона Амнерис должны сделать невозможный выбор: любовь или Родина, любовь или свобода, любовь или месть, а в конечном счете – любовь или жизнь. Передать ту космических масштабов драму, что разворачивается в душе каждого из героев, помогает безупречное оркестровое и мелодическое письмо Верди, достигшего в этой опере вершины своего композиторского мастерства.

Постановка оперы Джузеппе Верди «Аида» всегда была для нашего театра большим событием, для которого приглашались лучшие режиссеры и художники. В 1930-х годах две постановки выпустил работавший тогда в штате театра дирижер Исидор Зак, впоследствии вставший у истоков Новосибирского и Челябинского оперных театров. Сценографом «Аиды» 1946 года был выдающийся театральный художник Симон Вирсаладзе, чьи работы до сих пор являются образцом для коллег. А спектакль 1974 года оформляли мать и дочь, Тамара и Ирина Старженецкие – театральные художницы и живописцы, много работавшие в Большом театре. Спектакль Чернышёва, который хвалили за традиционность, но критиковали за отсутствие изысканности, пробыл в репертуаре САТОБ 16 сезонов.

Нынешняя постановка «Аиды» стала лауреатом самарской театральной премии зрительских симпатий «Браво» в номинации «Лучший музыкальный спектакль».
