“All-Night Vigil” is the pinnacle of the choral creativity of the great Russian composer S.V. Rachmaninov. The work was created in 1915, reflecting the complex contradictions of the pre-revolutionary era, and deep anxiety for the fate of the homeland, and the contradictions in the spiritual life of the composer himself. In search of a moral ideal that serves as a support in difficult life trials, the composer turns to the roots of Russian musical culture - ancient church chants and Znamenny singing.

After 1917, Rachmaninov’s “All-Night Vigil” was banned for a long time in Russia. Only at the end of the 20th century did this wonderful music take its rightful place in concert life.

The work will be performed by the choir of the Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theater named after Musa Jalil - a highly professional group whose repertoire includes opera works of different styles and eras. The idea to perform a large-scale composition for an a capella choir belongs to the main choirmaster of the group, Yuri Karpov, a certain part of whose activity was devoted to regency practice.

Lecturer of the Moscow Philharmonic, musicologist, candidate of art history Yaroslav Timofeev (Moscow) will lead to the perception of spiritual music, which is difficult for a modern person, and will introduce listeners to this composition in more detail.

«Всенощное бдение» – вершина хорового творчества великого русского композитора С.В.Рахманинова. Сочинение было создано в 1915 году, отразив и сложные противоречия предреволюционной эпохи, и глубокую тревогу за судьбы родины, и противоречивость душевной жизни самого композитора. В поисках нравственного идеала, служащего опорой в тяжелых жизненных испытаниях, композитор обращается к корням русской музыкальной культуры — старинным церковным напевам, знаменному пению.

После 1917 года в России «Всенощное бдение» Рахманинова было надолго запрещено. Лишь в конце XX века эта прекрасная музыка заняла свое законное место в концертной жизни.

Произведение исполнит хор Татарского академического государственного театра оперы и балета имени Мусы Джалиля – высокопрофессиональный коллектив, в репертуаре которого – оперные сочинения разных стилей и эпох. Идея исполнить масштабное сочинение для хора a capella принадлежит главному хормейстеру коллектива Юрию Карпову, определенная часть деятельности которого была посвящена регентской практике.
