A brilliant composer
Antonio Draghi is a brilliant composer of the baroque period who is wrongly little played. The Italian composer became Kapellmeister at the court of Leopold I in Vienna in 1668 and contributed greatly to the development of Italian opera and oratorio. In that respect, he was a great example for none other than Antonio Vivaldi. In 1686 he wrote the oratorio Il dono della vita eterna (The Gift of Eternal Life), which premiered on Good Friday of that year. Conductor and harpsichordist Leonardo García Alarcón found the work in the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in Vienna and considered this 'gift of eternal life' as the perfect soundtrack for All Souls' Day, the commemoration of the deceased.

About the Netherlands Bach Society
The Netherlands Bach Society is known for its passionate annual performances of the St Matthew Passion, but does much more during the season. In addition to the integral performance of all Bach's works in the All of Bach project, the company regularly performs baroque forgotten baroque treasures in collaboration with great internationally renowned musicians such as the Argentinian keyboardist and conductor Leonardo García Alarcón. Under the direction of Alarcón and with a carefully composed quintet of soloists, the Netherlands Bach Society turns the first performance of Draghi's oratorio in centuries into an exciting experience.

Een briljant componist
Antonio Draghi is een briljante componist uit de barokke periode die ten onrechte weinig wordt gespeeld. De Italiaanse componist schopte het in 1668 tot Kapellmeister aan het hof van Leopold I in Wenen en droeg in hoge mate bij aan de ontwikkeling van de Italiaanse opera en het oratorium. Wat dat aangaat was hij een groot voorbeeld voor niemand minder dan Antonio Vivaldi. In 1686 schreef hij het oratorium Il dono della vita eterna (Het geschenk van het eeuwige leven) dat op Goede Vrijdag van dat jaar zijn première beleefde. Dirigent en klavecinist Leonardo García Alarcón vond het werk in de Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in Wenen en beschouwde dit ‘geschenk van het eeuwige leven’ als de perfecte soundtrack bij Allerzielen, de herdenking van de overledenen.

Over de Nederlandse Bachvereniging
De Nederlandse Bachvereniging staat bekend om de bevlogen jaarlijkse uitvoeringen van de Matthäus Passion, maar doet gedurende het seizoen veel meer. Naast de integrale uitvoering van alle werken van Bach in het project All of Bach voert het gezelschap regelmatig barokke vergeten barokke schatten uit in samenwerking met grote internationaal gerenommeerde musici zoals de Argentijnse toetsenist en dirigent Leonardo García Alarcón. Onder leiding van Alarcón en met een zorgvuldig samengesteld solistenkwintet maakt de Nederlandse Bachvereniging van de eerste opvoering van Draghi’s oratorium sinds eeuwen een enerverende belevenis.
