Premiered in New York in 2016, »Angel's Bone« tells the story of two fallen angels who left heaven in search of earthly pleasures. Mrs. and Mr. XE find the two angels exhausted and injured from the fall in the garden. But instead of nursing them to health, they clip their wings and sell private sessions with the angels to members of their congregation.

The highly emotional and theatrical musical language of the composer Du Yun cannot be reduced to one style. Far from any reservations, she moves between chamber music, punk rock, opera, variety and electronic music right through western music history. For her parable of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, Du Yun weaves the various genres into an impressive and oppressive whole. In 2017, she became the first Asian woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Angel's Bone.
Director Antje Schupp has already demonstrated her keen sense for politically painful issues with her production of »The Consul«. The winner of the Swiss Performing Arts Prize 2021 returns to Augsburg for the European premiere of »Angel's Bone«.
