THE WALTZ & THE CHILD AND THE Spells Balanchine & Maillot The first academy will be dedicated to the French repertoire (in particular Ravel, Poulenc and Debussy) and to a special collaboration with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. The selected participants will appear alongside the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and the Ballet artists in Jean-Christophe Maillot’s new production of Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges, which will be staged next December 2023. Created by Ravel in 1925 in Monte-Carlo to a libretto by Colette (whose 150th anniversary is being celebrated this year), L'Enfant et les Sortilèges was one of the favorite works of HSH Prince Rainier III. Jean-Christophe Maillot's new creation brings together 240 artists on stage to give substance to a large-format show that Ravel had already imagined in his time as a musical comedy before its time. Before unveiling this extraordinary creation, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will perform La Valse by George Balanchine: a return to the roots for this ballet given 20 years ago and of which Prince Rainier III was also fond. 240 ARTISTS ON STAGE! 50 dancers, 90 musicians, 100 singers With the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra (dir.
