The title piece of the concert, Ludwig van Beethoven's fifth symphony, has become synonymous with classical music. From the four-note knocking of fate theme of this piece begins a grand musical novel with a powerful and vivid character. The concert will also feature George Gershwin's unforgettable and generationally binding "Rhapsody in Blue" celebrating his centenary soon - a work that combined the principles of jazz and symphonic development in a concert piece for the first time in music history. The acclaimed jazz pianist Kristjan Randalu will perform the solo, the versatile Andres Kaljuste will conduct - an acclaimed viola and violin artist, chamber musician and conductor.

Kontserdi nimiteos, Ludwig van Beethoveni viies sümfoonia on kujunenud omamoodi klassikalise muusika sünonüümiks. Selle teose neljanoodilisest saatuse koputuse teemast algab jõuline ja erksa karakteriga suurejooneline muusikaline romaan. Kontserdil kõlab ka George Gershwini peatselt sajandat sünnipäeva tähistav unustamatu ja põlvkondi siduv „Rhapsody in Blue“ – teos, mis ühendas kontsertteoses esimest korda muusikaajaloos džässi ja sümfoonilise arenduse printsiibid. Soleerib hinnatud džässpianist Kristjan Randalu, dirigeerib mitmekülgne Andres Kaljuste – hinnatud vioola- ja viiulikunstnik, kammermuusik ja dirigent.
