Eine Mythenkorrektur am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts bringt Bibiana Beglau zu Gehör: Christa Wolf greift in ihrem Roman »Medea. Stimmen« auf eher unbekannte, sehr frühe Versionen des »Medea«-Mythos zurück, in dem Medea als fremde Zauberin aus Kolchis auftritt, die keinen Anschluss im griechischen Korinth findet. Der Kindsmord, der aus vielen späteren Fassungen des Medea-Stoffes bekannt ist, war in Frühfassungen des Mythos noch nicht vorhanden – und daraus folgend auch nicht bei jener Bearbeitung von Christa Wolf.

Medea
A myth correction at the end of the 20th century is heard by Bibiana Beglau: in her novel »Medea. Stimme« (Medea: Voices), Christa Wolf draws on rather unknown, very early versions of the »Medea« myth, in which Medea appears as a foreign sorceress from Colchis who finds no connection in Greek Corinth. The infanticide, which is known from many later versions of the Medea material, was not yet present in early versions of the myth - and consequently also not in that adaptation by Christa Wolf.
