Here, forget the cigar maker, the tobacco factory, Seville and its popular festivals! For his third production at La Monnaie, Dmitri Tcherniakov offers a radical show, inscribed in a realistic setting, at the heart of the myth - and therefore projections and fantasies - that surrounds our heroine. At the center of the drama, men and women of today, emotionally disillusioned, who are about to "play" Carmenfor therapeutic purposes. Quickly, the simple role-playing game turns into an uncontrollable mechanic in which a man, consumed by passion, no longer manages to extricate himself from his character. Emmanuel Villaume and José Miguel Pérez-Sierra will alternately conduct this score with an immediate passionate charge, each note of which is at the service of the drama.
